The West Jefferson Medical Center Spiritual Care Department provides a spiritual presence for patients, family members, and hospital employees. A patient’s health involves more than just medicine alone. When the body needs healing, sometimes the spirit needs healing too.
West Jefferson Staff Chaplains are available for support, prayer and counsel to people of all faith traditions. Roman Catholic priests are also available for sacramental needs. Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist, Deacons, and other spiritual care volunteers visit daily to listen, pray, and offer communion.
A visit by a West Jefferson Staff Chaplain or Catholic priest can be requested upon admission by calling Guest Services at 504.349.1134 (Monday through Friday) or by notifying your nurse. Staff Chaplains are available Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. A Catholic priest is on call after hours and on weekends and holidays.
The West Jefferson Chapel is available for private prayer, meditation, and worship services. It is located on the 2nd floor near the surgery and critical care waiting areas and is open 24 hours a day. Catholic Mass is held in the Chapel every Thursday at 12 noon and on Holy Days.
