Emergency Preparedness

West Jefferson Medical Center has plans in place to ensure the safety of our patients and staff. When a tropical storm or hurricane threatens New Orleans, West Jefferson will activate its emergency plan to provide patients and their family members, staff, and physicians with up-to-date information regarding our preparations, announcements about closing and reopening the facilities and other relevant instructions.

WJMC's hurricane plan is designed to ensure the safety of our patients and staff. In preparing our plan we have worked closely with state and local governments, the Louisiana Hospital Association, our medical staff and employees.

Severe Weather Alert – Hurricane Sally Update Tuesday, September, 15 2020, 11:30 am

West Jefferson Medical Center is closely monitoring the impact of Hurricane Sally as it approaches our region. The storm's path has shifted slightly eastward Monday morning, and is now forecast to make a first landfall early Tuesday morning near the Mouth of the Mississippi River.

The New Orleans Metro area is currently under a Hurricane Warning and a Flash Flood Watch. Prepare your home now as we expect to feel the effects beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15.

Out of abundance of caution, and to assure the safety of our patients and staff, all clinic appointments are cancelled for Tuesday, September 15. This also includes radiology and sleep studies, elective cases and procedures. Both West Jefferson Fitness Center locations—Marrero and Terrytown—will also be closed. No patient visitation will be permitted on Tuesday, September 15.

Our severe weather plan was designed to ensure the safety of our patients, employees and medical staff and we will continue to provide healthcare with heart to those entrusted in our care.
