  • Vocal Cord Dysfunction

Diagnosing pulmonary disease

Pulmonary conditions and lung diseases can significantly impair your ability to breathe. Many of them show similar symptoms, such as coughing, wheezing, chest tightness or pain, and fatigue.

Some of the many diagnostic tests and devices we offer include:

  • Laryngoscopy
  • Tracheostomy
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Pulmonary Function Test
  • Thoracentesis
  • Methacholine Challenge
  • Cardiopulmonary Stress Test (CPX)
  • Pulse Oximeters
  • Right Heart Catheterization

After discussing your symptoms and your concerns with your doctor, he or she will employ one or more of these diagnostic techniques to assess your condition and provide an accurate diagnosis.

Some pulmonary diseases are curable, while others have no cure. All of them, however, are treatable. Medication, rehabilitation, and medical devices can all reduce symptoms and improve the overall condition.

West Jefferson Pulmonary Associates offers:

  • Pulmonary Rehab
  • Inhalers & Bronchodilators
  • Pleural Drainage Catheters

In addition, these prescribed treatments and lifestyle changes are also recommended to help treat pulmonary diseases. Learning to control your breathing, exercising regularly, avoiding smoke and air pollution, and eating healthy can all make a difference in treating your condition.

Sometimes, surgical procedures can also improve a pulmonary disorder, though surgery is generally reserved only for severe cases that do not respond to other treatment methods.

Pulmonary rehabilitation

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a broad program that helps improve the well-being of people who have chronic breathing problems. This kind of targeted rehabilitation benefits people who have COPD, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, or another pulmonary disease. At West Jefferson Pulmonary Associates, our 12-week program has supervised 2-hour sessions on a bi-weekly basis.

This program provides participants and their families with information and support to overcome the day-to-day challenges of living with chronic lung disease. Patients are immersed in a supportive environment that provides all the resources they need to make healthy choices and maintain a high quality of life.

Please call our scheduling line at 504.380.0348 to make your clinic appointment. We are open Monday – Friday from 8am to 5pm. Walk-ins are welcomed and we accept all major insurances.
