West Jefferson Medical Center’s CEO, Nancy R. Cassagne, has been named one of New Orleans’s top female achievers. This distinguished award is presented annually to New Orleans women who have devoted their every effort to serving this community. Each year, the editorial staff of the New Orleans Magazine honors the women whose accomplishments exhibit the desire to help the New Orleans community and the initiative to do so.

Cassagne is a native of Marrero and was born at West Jefferson Medical Center. She earned her Bachelors of Science in accounting at Nicholls State University. Prior to acquiring her position as CEO, Cassagne assisted WJMC through the position of Chief Financial Officer. Two years later, Cassagne rose to the position of CEO.

During her life, Cassagne has acquired nearly three decades of skills in the areas of health care, government, non-profit and utility organizations enabling her to provide WJMC with the financial advice that every excellent hospital must-have. In the past, Cassagne has also served as a parish administrator and has received much recognition for the ways that she has served the New Orleans community.

“I know Nancy Cassagne is especially proud of the excellent level of care that WJMC provides to the community. She continues to assist WJMC as it adapts to developments in the health care industry,” said Harry “Chip” Cahill, Chairman of the Hospital Board. “Currently, she has been working through our hospital board led initiative to partner with another health care provider in order to better meet the needs of the community. We appreciate her continued leadership and congratulate Mrs. Cassagne on this prestigious award.”

Of the many people who have inspired Cassagne, the top female in a firm in downtown New Orleans encouraged Cassagne to become a strong, influential, female professional. To upcoming business women, Cassagne encourages them to treat coworkers with the highest respect, to know when to step away and care for themselves, and to volunteer in their communities.

Although Cassagne has to work long hours, the gratitude of the patients and their families is enough to remind Cassagne why she continues to be a part of the WJMC family as well as a proud resident of the New Orleans area.
