Family Health Expo 2009 - morning of fun, learning and more

West Jefferson Medical Center (WJMC) is hosting its annual Family Health Expo on Saturday, May 30th from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. The event is free and open to the public. There will also be a WJ Family Fitness Fun Walk that will begin at 9:30 AM.

The Family Expo will be held on the main WJMC Campus with dozens of informational booths and representatives from the hospital’s different service lines such as Woman’s Services and the Family Birth Place, Pediatrics, Family Doctors, Neuroscience and Stroke Center, Oncology, Cardiac Care and more.

Screenings will include diabetic foot screening (pre-registration at 349-1308 required), Community Cancer Program skin cancer screening (pre-registration required at 349-1308) - and blood pressure, fasting glucose and fasting cholesterol offered by the Family Doctors booth. Blood pressures also will be offered at the WJMC Stroke Team booth. Other activities include New Orleans Immunization Network van with no cost vaccinations for children, ambulance and fire engine tours, Bike helmet give-away (limited quantities - Children must be present for fitting), car seat safety checks with LA Passenger Safety Task Force and empathy experiences with Rehab Center and Rehab Connection (being conducted at Fitness Center).

The Expo will span several areas of the Medical Center including the Atrium, Auditorium, Fitness Center, Hall of History classrooms and the first floor of the Physicians Center. To enter grand prize drawing (one-year Fitness Center membership for two valued at approximately $864.00), participate in scavenger hunt to these areas and complete Community Needs Assessment survey on back of scavenger hunt form.
