The CARE HOUSE project is designed to benefit families whose loved ones are being
cared for in the critical care nursing units at West Jefferson Medical Center. It gives them a complimentary,
comfortable place to stay near the hospital while they wait for their loved ones to recover.
The house has been named: “The Care House - The Silva Lining". Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Silva are the major donors
for the home. The couple named it in loving memory of Mr. Carlos "Chas" Silva and Mr. and Mrs. Christian "Whitey"
Schulingkamp. The Care House opened in July 2010. To date, more than 920 nights of complimentary lodging in the Care House
have been provided to patients' loved ones.
The 3-bedroom Care House is located just a block from the hospital. Priority will be given
to individuals whose loved ones have experienced an unexpected medical emergency and live at least 10 miles from
the hospital.
The House is fully furnished and equipped with many of the comforts of home.
The facility is supported by the West Jefferson Hospital Foundation, and on-going donations
will be accepted to support this short-stay lodging. Donations are accepted from individuals and/or corporations
and may be given as an Annual Gift, in Planned Giving installments, Stock or as a one time Honorary or Memorial Gift
to honor a loved one. Donations to the WJH Foundation may be deemed unrestricted or restricted. Gifts are considered
tax deductible to the extent of the law. To make a contribution please e-mail us at
