West Jefferson Medical Center’s Stroke Center earned The Joint Commission’s designation as Louisiana’s first Nationally Certified Primary Stroke Center in 2006. Accredited since that year, our team is dedicated to offering the most comprehensive program of its kind in Louisiana. Since we are an accredited Primary Stroke Center, New Orleans area patients receive hospital services that meet rigorous national standards for stroke care and have the critical elements needed for long-term success in improving outcomes. Our patients are assured certified physicians and medical staff members that can give them personalized care during their recovery.

Strokes affect over 700,000 people each year and cause widespread disability and death throughout the United States. Strokes are a serious matter and the qualified staff at our Stroke Center works vigorously to help patients recover from strokes or prevent future strokes.

Our dedication and diligence in stroke treatment and research has been nationally recognized by the American Heart Association, which awarded the Get with the Guidelines Silver Quality Performance Achievement Award to West Jefferson Medical Center. Patient education is extremely important in treating and preventing strokes, and information packets are given to each patient that give guidelines for preventative measures and methods.

The Stroke Center treats acute strokes, TIAs and other neurological and neurosurgical conditions. Space is dedicated within this unit for epilepsy monitoring in affiliation with LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans. Here neuroscience specialists further care for patients requiring this monitoring service. Specialized equipment is available to assist specialists with monitoring and providing diagnostic treatment services. At West Jefferson Medical Center’s Stroke Center, New Orleans area patients get the advantage of cutting-edge methods, technology and procedures.
