The Spiritual Care team provides a spiritual presence for patients, their family members, and staff. Interfaith chaplains are
available for guidance, support, prayer and counsel. Each chaplain is trained to provide spiritual care in a manner sensitive
to the patient’s and family member’s religious tradition. Two ministers of varied protestant traditions, a catholic priest
and two part-time catholic deacons provide the spiritual care. Extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist visit daily offering
Communion to those with sacramental needs.
A visit by a chaplain can be requested upon admission, by calling guest service at 504.349.1134 (Mon. thru Fri., 8:00 A.M. till 5:00 P.M.),
by notifying your nurse or by contacting a hospital operator. Chaplains are available Mon. thru Fri., 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. A chaplain
is on call after hours, weekends and holidays.
A chapel for private prayer and meditation is located on the 2nd floor near the surgery and critical care waiting areas. It is open 24
hours a day. An inter-faith prayer gathering is held every Tuesday at 12 noon.
