The Hyperbaric Treatment
Before the patients first treatment (Dive) the Hyperbaric physician will have the patient sign the consents; “Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and the Rendering of Other Medical Services” and the “Hyperbaric Safety Acknowledgement”. The consents will explain as with any medical procedure there is some degree of risk to receiving HBOT.
The physician will explain the hazards of being in a pressurized environment (barotrauma), the hazards of breathing 100% oxygen (toxicity) and the risk of fire from being in an oxygen enriched environment. The physician will explain the appropriate steps on how the Staff ensures patient safety. The physician and staff will explain to the patient what to expect during the first treatment. The Staff will explain to the patient how to clear their ears during pressurization, that the treatments will last approximately 2 hours long (that’s why we have TVs), and that treatments are 6 days a week. The physician will explain based on the patient diagnosis approximately how many treatments and the type of wound care the patient will receive.
