Wound Care Center
The West Jefferson Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care Center is located on the first floor of the Physicians Center just steps away from beginning of the Hall of History which is located in the hospital.
The Center features a 12-patient Multiplace chamber as well as Monoplace chambers and is staffed by physicians, nurses and technicians specializing in Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care.
Patients are treated in this setting who present with a number of wounds including those associated with crushing injuries, wounds caused by blood loss, wounds associated with radiation tissue injury, thermal burns, problem healing wounds and chronic diabetic foot wounds.
The wound treatment program offers care tailored to the unique needs of the individual and is dependent upon the severity and type of wound or wounds. Wound care may involve removal of unhealthy tissue, high pressure oxygen therapy in the above chambers as well as other methodologies and treatment including surgical interventions. Wound care in many instances advances healing.
The fastest possible healing is achieved through wound treatment programs. Wound care may involve special or conventional dressings, ‘dives’ in the Chamber for oxygen treatment, foot care including fitting of protective or special shoes or appliances, medications and surgery. Counseling may include education on treatment of current wounds as well as prevention of sores and wounds such as in the person with diabetes. Dietary counseling for healing as well as prevention may also be employed.
Patients have often told the staff in this setting that they attribute the healing of their wound and prevention of loss of limb to the dedication and expertise of the doctors and staff in the Wound Care Center.
In addition to wound care, the Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care Center is known for its oxygen treatment in the Hyperbaric chambers for persons with varied conditions including decompression sickness, carbon monoxide poisoning and smoke inhalation, gas gangrene, air or gas embolism, intracranial abscesses and osteomyelitis.
In addition to the expert care provided, the world known team of Hyperbarics and Wound Care take part in Speakers Bureau especially in the area of diabetes care as well as carbon monoxide poisoning prevention.
