Imaging Services
West Jefferson Medical Center provides Imaging Services to patients 24 hours a day in its Imaging Departments with personnel appropriately licensed and certified within each discipline. Range of service comprises diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, invasive & non-invasive techniques, using ionizing radiation with or without contrast material.
Goals and Objectives of imaging services are to produce an image that will be used to assist in the solution of a medical or surgical problem. Also, imaging provides diagnostic information not available by any other means, and emphasizing therapeutic techniques in the management of disease.
The various disciplines of Imaging include:
DIAGNOSTIC RADIOLOGY - Located on the first floor adjacent to the Emergency Department, Radiology Diagnostic and Fluoroscopic OP Services are performed Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm and Saturday morning between 8:00 am and 12:00 noon. All other in-house services are performed 24/7. Images are captured by computer (CR) and Digital (DR). A Picture Archival Communication System (PACS) is available for all exams performed and images can be electronically transmitted to your WJMC physician's office for your convenience via Hospital Web. CAT Scan has a Multislice CT unit for advanced imaging. The hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Contrast Outpatient exams are scheduled until 7:00 pm and on Saturday mornings from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.
PET/ CT- The ACR accredited PET/CT unit is located on the 1st floor of the hospital in CT, adjacent to the Radiology Department. The PET/ CT unit is a state of art Philips Gemini 64 TF that incorporates a 64 slice CT unit and Time of Flight PET technology that significantly reduces scan times, usually 25 minutes or less.

NUCLEAR MEDICINE - Hours of operation: Scheduled OP diagnostic and therapeutic procedures Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:30pm. On-call availability after hours.
Nuclear Medicine is located on 2nd floor west wing. The Nuclear Med department provides quality services dedicated to the latest in radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and interventional procedures. This department is an integral part of the overall comprehensive care of the patient and pursues all pathways to achieve total patient care.
The department offers Nuclear Medicine services 24 hours a day to inpatients, outpatients, and emergency patients of all ages. Nuclear Medicine primarily provides information on organ structure and function/metabolism.
Main diagnostic and therapeutic procedures include bone, cardiac, lung, urologic imaging, and thyroid diagnosis and therapy with radioactive iodine to treat hyperthyroidism and thyroid carcinoma. Some cardiac procedures, such as stress myocardial perfusion imaging are performed on patients in conjunction with a treadmill study with a cardiologist available. In vivo imaging procedures require the injection or oral administration of a radiopharmaceutical.
All individuals who provide diagnostic or therapeutic services are licensed and have the appropriate clinical privileges and training. Practitioners and staff include a Physician Director, Director, licensed technologists and Radiologic Physicist.
ULTRASOUND - Hours of operation: Scheduled OP diagnostic and therapeutic procedures Monday-Friday 7:30am-5:30pm. On-call availability after hours.
The Ultrasound department is located on the 1st floor adjacent to the Radiology department. The department has state of the art equipment and offers diagnostic exams in these areas: abdomen, obstetrics, gynecology, and vascular ultrasound. The department also offers ultrasound guidance for interventional procedures: biopsies, paracentesis and thoracentesis.
Practitioners and staff include a Physician Director, registered or registry eligible technologists.
SPECIAL PROCEDURES - Located on the second floor within the surgical suite, services include Cardiac Catheterization, Vascular Imaging, Surgery, and Urology. Equipment includes four c-arms for angiography imaging, two dedicated Cysto systems for urology, three portable c-arms for surgical procedures and two portable x-ray machines used primarily in recovery and holding areas. Normal operating hours are from 7 am to 3 pm in house. Emergency services are provided by on call personnel after normal working hours.
POB IMAGING CENTER - For the convenience of our out patients, an Imaging Center is available on the first floor of the Physician's Office Building. In addition to routine x-ray procedures, the specialty of MRI and MRA is performed in this clinic. West Jefferson provides state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging with a 1.5 Tesla magnet. Normal operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am through 5:00 pm. Call is available in the event emergency service is necessary for MRI. Contact 349-6300 for MRI scheduling.
WOMEN'S IMAGING CENTER - Women's Imaging is located at 4521 Westbank Expressway in the West Jefferson Medical Plaza. This state-of-the-art facility has dedicated and certified staff with advanced skills in mammography, bone density stereotactic systems and ultrasound technology.
The Women's Imaging and Breast Care Center added two state-of-the-art Digital Mammography units, in addition to new Digital computer assisted technology (CAD). The Center provides two radiologist readings that offer increased accuracy in breast imaging that makes us stand out in the Westbank area. A stereotactic procedure room allows for additional diagnostic technology and minimally invasive procedures to diagnose breast abnormalities within one week. The Center has two bone density rooms and one ultrasound room.
The Women's Imaging and Breast Care Center is a comprehensive diagnostic Center that is designed to offer rapid response to the needs of the patients. Arrangements are made to meet each patient's medical needs in the speediest and most effective manner. Consultation with a breast specialist is arranged within 48 hours of a diagnostic breast examination. This type of dedicated and individualized service makes it possible for the patient's diagnostic course to begin as soon as possible.
For your convenience, patient registration is on site and walk-in patients are accommodated. Hours of operation are 7:45 am to 4:15 pm Monday thru Friday, and Saturday appointments are available. Parking on site is available.
