Our Research Team
Maria M. Chester, RN, BSN, OCN, CCRP a native of New Orleans, received her BSN degree in December of 2004 from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing after being awarded the LSUHSC Board of Supervisors Scholarship. Post-Katrina, she was involved with inpatient care of newborns, post-partum, medical-surgical, geriatric and inpatient hospice patients and was charge nurse of an inpatient oncology unit. Prior to September 2007, Maria’s nursing experience was in inpatient Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant administering chemotherapy, blood products, supportive care and palliative care. From 2007 until 2014, Maria was the Clinical Research Coordinator for the LSUHSC Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center, became an oncology-certified nurse, and a certified research professional. She spent 6+ years dedicated to pharmaceutical and Investigator-initiated clinical research at the multidisciplinary Neuroendocrine Tumor Clinic at Ochsner Medical Center-Kenner. From September 2013 until May 2014, Maria enjoyed screening, enrolling and treating oncology patients with various disease types as the Lead Clinical Research Associate at LSU-New Orleans for the Minority Based CCOP clinical trials, in addition to her role at the Neuroendocrine Tumor Clinic. As the Senior Clinical Research Coordinator since June 2014 and now the Clinical Research Director, Maria is proud to be a part of West Jefferson Medical Center and the Crescent City Research Consortium. She is dedicated to coordinating cutting edge treatments and facilitating the relationships among medical professionals within 2 diverse, excellent institutions.
Maria will continue in her endeavor of seeing a number of novel forms of therapy become an integral part of the practice of medicine, improving cancer patients' quality of life and longevity. Her love for patients and zeal for research make her an asset to our patients.
Jasmyne Watts, MPH accepted the role of Clinical Research Data Coordinator in June of 2015. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Clark Atlanta University in 2012 and a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Public Health Preparedness and Health Care and Organizational Policy from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2014.
Prior to joining WJMC Jasmyne began her career working to provide technical assistance, programming and training to Federally Qualified Health Centers throughout the State of Louisiana. Upon joining WJMC, Jasmyne feels like she is back where she was when she was in graduate school. She loves research and the hope it continuously gives individuals in an effort to enhance their quality of life.
