Hidden Scar™ surgery

At University Medical Center New Orleans, patients have access to advanced surgical procedures that allow our surgeons to treat breast cancer as effectively as possible and result in the lowest amount of residual scarring.

With the Hidden Scar technique, patients whose tumors fall within a specific size or region of the breast can now have incisions made in less conspicuous, noticeable areas.

If a tumor is not located on the nipple and has not spread throughout other areas of the breast, incisions can be made at the natural crease under the breast, in the armpit or along the areole border.

To find out if you are a candidate, call the Cancer Center at 504.702.3311 to schedule a consultation.

DigniCap® Scalp Cooling System

A common side effect of chemotherapy is hair loss. This happens as chemotherapy treatment drugs circulate throughout the body, including the scalp, where cell damage results in hair falling out temporarily or permanently. Thanks to the DigniCap Scalp Cooling System, cancer patients can increase their chances of keeping their hair throughout treatment.

Patients wear a silicone cap on their scalp that circulates a coolant. This coolant carries heat away from the scalp to reduce its temperature, slowing circulation and preventing the chemotherapy drugs from having such a strong effect on the scalp.

To learn more about the DigniCap Scalp Cooling System, call the Cancer Center at 504.702.3311 or download this booklet.
